Camden County”s Free Expungement Event on MLK Day

(Camden CITY, NJ) – On Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, the Commissioners will be partnering with Camden County College, the Volunteer UP legal clinic and ARCHER Attorneys at Law, to host a free expungement event at Camden

County College’s Camden City Campus. Attendees can meet with an attorney, free of charge, to discuss getting their criminal records expunged.

“Countless people have been disproportionately impacted by the criminal justice system and the past mistakes are holding them back from making progress,” said Commissioner Jon Young. “And for many people, hiring an attorney to sort out legal issues is cost prohibitive. This event eliminates the issue of cost to provide direct legal support for residents as well as removes barrier to allow for successful futures.”

Attorney time is limited so attendees are encouraged to schedule an appointment by calling (856) 217-8686.

“Camden County College is proud to join with our partners to offer this expungement clinic at our Camden City Campus,” said Dr. Lovell Pugh-Bassett, President of Camden County College. “Our institution of higher learning seeks to serve our community by removing barriers, whether they are barriers to education or barriers to gainful employment and benefits that the expungement process can eliminate.”

In addition, the Commissioners are currently looking for attorneys to volunteer at the event in exchange for CLE credits. To receive the credits, attorneys must volunteer in person on Jan. 16 between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. To register for the free virtual training session on Jan. 10 visit this link.
