THE STORY INSIDE THE STORY: Is it Okay to Pray?

Members of the Buffalo Bills organization and fans pray for Damar Hamlin after he suffered a heart attack during a Monday night’s game between the Bills and Cincinnati Bengals. The second-year safety collapsed after making a tackle during a first-quarter play against the Bengals. He was taken to UC Medical Center by ambulance. The rest of the game was postponed.
We all know by now that prayer isn’t allowed – anywhere.  Prayer is definitely not permitted in public schools, government buildings, and property, and if some have their way, not even in churches.  Think about how many churches have been vandalized, burned, or congregants killed just because they wanted to participate in their religious services.  Jews have been singled out for centuries.
So, what happened Monday night?  Sadly, a 24-year-old football player, Damar Hamlin, collapsed on the field.  He was given CPR three times before being stable enough to be put into an ambulance, driven onto the field, and taken to a hospital.  The amazing thing about this tragedy is that the trainers from both teams came onto the field to help.  They were united; teams melded together.  On the field, the players from both teams knelt in prayer.
There are so many lessons to be learned from this tragedy.  The teams, who only a few minutes prior were opponents, were now united for a common cause.  No one, so far, expressed rage over the men praying.  What is the difference between praying on the field and praying in school?  The goal is the same.
Our government and citizens can and should learn a lesson.  It is okay to be a liberal or conservative.  It is okay to be a Democrat or Republican.  But we need a common goal, and it shouldn’t take a tragedy like 9-11, or the Miracle on the Hudson, or 24-year-old athletic fighting for his life to bring us together.
